If you are looking for an active (or restful), holiday by the coast you will find our hostel offers an affordable self catered break based in the heart of Dunbar's conservation area. Our rooms are mainly twins and doubles (two ensuite), and are laid out over two upper floors. We also have a triple room and a large family room which sleeps up to eight, perfect for families. The hostel, with its 10 rooms and 27 beds is particularly well suited to groups and family gatherings and inclusive hire is popular.
There are five rooms on the first floor, all offer great accommodation for families. Bedrooms 1 and 2 share a shower room and together would also suit a family or group of 4.
Bedroom 3 is a triple room which also has room for a camp or cot bed (we have both). The shower room directly across the hall is allocated to this room.
Bedrooms 4 and 5 make up our spacious family or group suite which can accommodate up to eight people in three bunks and one double. As well as a private bathroom this suite also has access to an alternative toilet close by.
There are six rooms on the second floor with bedrooms 6 and 7 offering ensuite facilities.
Rooms 8, 9 and 10 are all twin rooms and share 2 bathrooms and a separate toilet along with room 11, a double. These rooms are ideal for singles, couples or families with older children. In particular rooms 9, 10 and 11 are up a short set of stairs and have a private hall suiting a family or small group. On this floor we have the hostel’s only bath (with shower head), ideal for those who need a long soak after an active day.
On the ground floor the hostel has a spacious lounge and separate dining area. The dining area is linked to a self catering kitchen with two ovens, a hob and plenty of cooking equipment should you wish to prepare your own food. The dining area is equipped with kettles, toasters and a fridge so that guests can prepare breakfast, we always offer a limited range of complimentary cereals and bread. If you prefer a cooked breakfast we can recommend the hotels on either side of the Dolphin or a number of High Street cafes just a few minutes away.
The hostel also has a large sunny private courtyard which has a secure area and lockable storage for boards and bikes (covered by CCTV). There is also an outdoor tap and drying line for wet gear. The courtyard has seating and we also grow some herbs and salads for guests use. There is direct access to the courtyard through the Dolphin although access for bikes, boards and other large items (by arrangement) is easiest via a locked gate in the external wall just around from the front door. This gate is not left open to ensure the area is kept secure.
The Dolphin also has a laundry and drying room. Guests can use the machines for a small fee (£5) although there is also a public laundry a short walk away.
